Review: I have been wanting to read this since I heard it discussed on the radio months ago. It didn’t disappoint. It gives a sense of history, but the characters are really relatable and interesting. It brings together the big sweeping changes (medicine, housing issues, politics) with personal experience.
Grief is the Thing with Feathers by Max Porter is another find from Five Leaves bookshop, following birthday book tokens. I really loved the cover, and the inside didn’t disappoint.
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner by Alan Sillitoe was bought with lovely birthday book tokens. I got it at Five Leaves Bookshop in Nottingham, and it seemed appropriate when buying books in Nottingham to buy a book about Nottingham. So, there it is. And then when I had to get the train to work it seemed make sense to read it en route.
